  3. Housing Expenses • Most people spend more money on housing than on any other expense • Factors: - Size of the home - Location of the home

  4. Renting • Pay to live – don’t own - Pay a security deposit – money down to cover any damage - pay for utilities, furniture, appliances - Lease – contract – typically 1 year – more flexibility

  5. Buying • Own the home • Pay a mortgage – long term home loan – generally 30 years • Must pay for utilities, furniture, appliances, property taxes, maintenance costs and insurance fees • Offers greater freedom for design/decoration • Investment value • Unexpected expenses • Reduced mobility
