  1. Tyee PTSA Programs & Support Presentation to Tyee Staff June 13, 2018

  2. Goals for this Presentation Tyee Teachers: This presentation describes funding available to you for the 2018-19 school year from BSF and PTSA. • Tyee PTSA Mission • Funding Sources • Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF) Grants • Tyee PTSA Teacher Grants • Tyee PTSA Classroom Funds • Other PTSA Activities • Grade Level Field Trips (7th & 8th) • Clubs • Social activities • Feedback for PTSA • Note: All Tyee PTSA budgeted amounts are subject to final approval in the fall.

  3. Tyee PTSA Mission We want to enhance the educational experience of the children and their families by working in partnership with the teachers, educational staff and local community. Our mission is to be: • A powerful voice for all children; • A trusted, relevant resource for families and communities; and • A strong advocate for the academic, social and emotional well-being of every child.

  4. Bellevue School Foundations (BSF) Grants • In 2017-18, BSF awarded a total of $85,000 in Arts, Enrichment and Innovation Grants across all Bellevue schools. • In 2017-18, Tyee received 3 grants: Raku ceramics workshop, Red Scarf Girl & a Global Citizenship grant. • Applications are due October 10, 2018. • BSF is exploring switch to online application. Grant application will be similar to 2017-18, even if format changes. • 2017-18 Application Form: http://tyeeptsa.org/Doc/BSF/2017-18%20BSF%20Arts_Enrichment_Innovation%20Grant%20.pdf • List of all BSF Grants Awarded in 2017-18: http://tyeeptsa.org/Doc/BSF/2017-18 BSF Arts_Enrichment_Innovation Grants.pdf • More information will be on the BSF website, once some their website issues are resolved.

  5. BSF Grants – Application Tips • Tips from BSF. They are looking for: • Grant application complete • Compelling need • Project clear & shows active student involvement • Project innovative & creative • Equity & inclusion • Student outcomes are clear • Timeline is reasonable & viable • Budget is complete & supports activities

  6. BSF Grants – More Tips • Additional tips based on our experience: • Grants that span two or more schools are seen with hugely positive favor; network if you can! • Programs with multiple sources of funding are more likely to be approved. • Avoid being disqualified instantly: • Make sure you have done your report-back on any prior grants you've received. • Do not submit paperwork that shows the program has been paid for (partially or in full). Even partially paid invoices indicate a program will happen regardless of BSF funding. • 'New' and innovative programs are looked upon favorably. • If you would like assistance writing or reviewing applications, let us know! We have knowledge about the BSF grant review process and can help write and/or review applications.

  7. Tyee PTSA Teacher Grants • In 2017-18, Tyee PTSA awarded a total of $5,000 in Teacher Grants. • For 2018-19, we have also budgeted a total of $5,000. • Applications for 2018-19 are due November 9, 2018. • 2018-19 Application Form: http://tyeeptsa.org/Doc/Teacher%20Grants/Tyee%20PTSA%20-%20Teacher%20Grant%20Application%202018-19.docx • A few recurring programs that will be funded outside of the Teacher Grant budget are: Living Voices, Red Scarf Girl, Orchestra Retreat, the Global Goals Initiative, Camp Orkila, and 7th & 8th grade field trips. • The PTSA Board decides on grant awards in December 2018.

  8. Tyee PTSA Classroom Funds • For 2018-19, Tyee PTSA has budgeted $100 in classroom funds for each classroom teacher and counselor. • Funds can be used for classroom supplies and equipment. • Unlike Teacher Grants, no “application” is necessary to access these funds. • To obtain reimbursement for 2018-19 expenses, submit a Check Request form (http://tyeeptsa.org/Doc/Deposit%20or%20Reimbursement/Check%20Request.pdf) along with original receipt(s) before May 31, 2019.

  9. Grade-Wide Field Trips • PTSA contributes to 6th grade Camp Orkila. • We have also budgeted $2,000 each for 7th & 8th grade field trips. • PTSA would love to work with teachers to plan grade-wide field trips for 7th & 8th graders in 2018-19. • We need input from teachers for ideas that tie to the curriculum. • PTSA can provide assistance with field trip research, logistics, coordination, etc. to lessen the work for teachers.

  10. Clubs • If you or students have ideas for new Clubs and are looking for parent support too, contact us.

  11. Socials • PTSA events that will recur next year: • Halloween Party • Holiday Bazaar • Neon Dance • Game Night • Field Day • Feel free to attend as your schedules allow. Students love to see their teachers at events like these.
