4. Who do we safeguard? Anyone who: • Is aged 18 or over • “is or maybe eligible for community care services…”. and • Is or maybe unable to take care of themselves or unable to protect themselves from significant harm or serious exploitation Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board

5. What do we mean by abuse? • Abuse is harm caused by an act or failure to act on the part of another person. It is a violation of a person’s human and civil rights • It may be intentional or unintentional • It may consist of a single act or repeat acts • It may cause harm temporarily or over a period of time. 8. NSAB Objectives • To bring together representatives from all the main agencies responsible for working with and providing services to adults • Ensure that all partners work effectively to identify abuse or inadequate care • Raise awareness within all agencies in Newcastle so that abuse is identified and alerts are made Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board

9. Implement the Inter-Agency Safeguarding Adults Policy and Procedures • Improve local ways of working • Ensure that staff are trained to recognise incidents of abuse and work together to protect vulnerable adults • Raise awareness within the wider community Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board

10. The role of the community and voluntary sector reps • Attend NSAB meetings • Support NSAB • To be a two- way channel with the NSAB and the sector • To participate in the Wellbeing and Health network Newcastle Safeguarding Adults Board
