This report provides an update on the configuration status of the ALICE databases, including readiness for redundant installation and ongoing development efforts. We acknowledge Jacek WOJCIESZUK for his contributions. Key tasks outlined include the finalization of hardware specifications and the implementation of CERN’s pending requirements. Additionally, we discuss Oracle export procedures for configuration data and improvements in AMANDA's performance metrics. Testing results indicate successful reading rates across different clients and storage methods.

DCS Databases status ALICE Week Svetozár Kapusta
Status • FERO configuration DB • Redundant installation ready at P2 • PVSS FW configuration DB • Redundant installation ready at P2 • Thanks to Jacek WOJCIESZUK (IT/PSS) • PVSS archival DB • We are finalizing the HW specifications • Will be installed in early 2007 • ETM still needs to implement pending CERN requirements ALICE Week Svetozár Kapusta
Policies • Ask the central team for an account • One account per one sub-detector • If you have already configuration data at your home institute DB: • use the Oracle export utility to export the data • Upload the data to LAB fileserver (See slides of Peter Rosinsky) • ACC will upload the data to CR3 and import it into the DB ALICE Week Svetozár Kapusta
Oracle Export • You can export • Entire Database • Users • Tablespaces • Tables • On the server command line type: • exp system/password owner=(SchemaToExport) • Or just type exp and answer exp’s questions (do not hesitate to ask ACC for help if needed) ALICE Week Svetozár Kapusta
FW Configuration Tool • Uses ODBC • To connect to your DB – Instant client is required on your client PC (in CR3 installed by ACC) • Remark (CERN NICE specific): • Standard NICE PC @CERN have Oracle tools v6 installed • To be able to connect to DB: • uninstall Oracle tools v6 • install InstantClient with ODBC extension • setup properly the ODBC connection (do not hesitate to ask ACC for help if needed) ALICE Week Svetozár Kapusta
AMANDA • Current version 4.1 (based on PVSSII API) • Download available: http://alice-project-dcs-amandaserver.web.cern.ch/alice-project-dcs-amandaserver/ • Known bugs fixed • Tests completed • Beta version of Windows based client (DCS client) available • Offline (AliRoot) client available in OCDB framework • Reduced version available from DCS web page (Linux only) ALICE Week Svetozár Kapusta
AMANDA Performance • Test results: • Transfer rate (reading from files): • ~10000 DPE/s (~80kB/s) Offline client • ~15000 DPE/s (120kB/s) DCS client • Transfer rate (reading from Oracle): • ~8000 DPE/s (60kB/s) Offline client + DB archive (final version will bypass PVSSII API) ALICE Week Svetozár Kapusta
AMANDA testsOffline client + DB archiving • Reading while archiving into DB • Connection overhead not excluded • Using offline client ALICE Week Svetozár Kapusta
