  1. Welcome to Sherwood Elementary School September, 2011

  2. Welcome to Mrs. Dina Brewer,Principal Intern This is a training year for Mrs. Brewer to learn the job of the principal. She will gradually take over all the lead responsibilities of the principal and will then run the school for January and February. Mr. Perlet will return in March.

  3. Enrollment • Enrollment is at 467 students • 17 new students grades 1-5 • 75 new kindergartners • Class sizes averaging 22-34 • Impact of Budget cuts • Counselor ---Class size/combo • Reading ---para support

  4. Goals for this year: • Our annual School Improvement Plan (SIP) is designed by our Baldrige team. This team involving several parents and staff meets monthly. Our goals will include meeting AYP as required by the state, implementing a rigorous revised curriculum, improving our written expression program, and building a 21st century learning environment • Random Problem Identification

  5. Curriculum 2.0 Over the past 5 years, MCPS has been redesigning our curriculum also known as the Elementary Integrated Curriculum (EIC) This year in grades K, 1, 2 We have a short video to introduce it. PTA Meeting on October 4th to address the changes in more depth.

  6. Parent Input to Our School Program What we do well and what we can improve: • Exit cards---Plus, OFI, Question • Parent Coffees • Conferences • E-mail • PTA meetings • Open door in the office

  16. Tips to help us keep your children SAFE: • Check in at the office. Wear a badge. Security is extremely important. • If you drive your child to school… -use the drop off lane -park your car and escort your child -no supervision before 8:50 • Pick up after school -at the drop off zone -at 3:27

  17. Tips to help us keep your children SAFE: • The office will be glad to call your child down. You cannot go to the classrooms. • Be on time---9:06, late at 9:15 • Leave on time---3:27 • If you are tardy, sign in at the office. • Bus notes are a must.

  18. We believe in communication. • We have a 24 hour response policy. If you don’t get some kind of a response within 24 hours, we did not get the message. E-mail may not be looked at every day. • Money should be in an envelope with the child’s name on the front and what the money is for. • Call the office to report an absence • Call or write if you have any questions or concerns.

  19. Reminders for tonight: • Sign-up for CONFERENCES in the hallway. • Volunteer in whatever way you can. • Join the PTA. • Tonight is not an individual conference night. Please let the teacher know that you would like to talk some other time. • Please put your Exit Cards in the boxes.
