  2. Komodo Dragon’s habitat • Where in the world is this animal from? • My animal lives on a series of islands in Indonesia that consists of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, GiliMotang.

  3. Komodo Dragon’s habitat • What kind of home or shelter does it make? • My animal makes its home out of rocks and bushy lowlands. They can also make their shelter in dense tropical rainforests.

  4. Do Komodo Dragons live alone? • My animal normally lives alone. However, when it is hunting for food, it will hunt in groups.

  5. Komodo Dragon’s diet • How does this animal move? • A Komodo dragon eats rodents, chickens, rabbits and fish. And sometimes…even people! • Komodo Dragons find their prey on the island in which they live.

  6. Komodo Dragon’s behavior • The way my animal moves is very similar to the way fish swim. The left front and right rear limbs move forward, while the right front and left rear limbs remain stationary. • Considering my animal is a type of Monitor Lizard, it is cold blooded (having a body temperature that reflects the environment). The advantage my creature has for having to live in a hot climate is that it warms up its body for energy, and its metabolism, and can therefore successfully hunt prey.

Komodo Dragon’s physical characteristics • Does it have any special adaptations that help it survive? • My animal has a tough armor skin for defense in battles, sharp talons for ripping the flesh of its prey, a forked tongue for sniffing out other dragons and prey, and a long dangerous tail that can be used as a whip. What is its size? A normal Komodo Dragon reaches a length of about 3m (about 10ft).

  9. Komodo Dragon’s special characteristic What special physical adaptations does it have If you are ever bitten by a Komodo Dragon, you are doomed to die. Even if you escape. All Komodo Dragons have a special saliva that contains millions of deadly bacteria that cause rapid death through blood poisoning.

Interesting Tidbits about the Komodo Dragon • Komodo Dragons are also known as “Ora”. • Female dragons lay up to 30 eggs at a time! • Once they hatch, the babies will live in the trees until they are about 8 months old. • Komodo Dragons are an Endangered Species • The scientific name for the Komodo Dragon is Varanuskomodoensis. • A dragon wounded by another dragon isn’t hurt by its poisonous saliva.
