  1. Cultural & Social Factors To consolidate understanding of the school and P.E. unit. To develop understanding of cultural & social factors that affect participation in sport.

To reflect the important of sport & physical activity in society.

You feel less stressed because you don’t have to worry about buying the things you need to survive You will be healthier because you can afford things to keep healthy (e.g. healthy foods, sports/kit clothing to exercise with) Q9. Staff will only deliver extra curricular activities based on their knowledge and experience E.g. staff who have lots of experience in football are likely to take football teams, rather than Gymnastic teams Q11. The more facilities a school has, the more activities they can offer E.g. if a school has a swimming pool, it is more likely to offer swimming as an extra curricular activity.

  5. Task • In small groups/pairs, list as many factors as you can that affect participation in sport.

  7. Task • Using the six factors that affect participation in sport, match up the meanings to the factor • Extension Activity: • Write one positive & one negative about each factor

  8. Task • On the silhouette, write around it the factors that make a ‘perfect’ sports participant. • E.g. Has a supportive family.

  9. Homework • Research at least four different ways that you can be involved in sport. • Identify these areas and write a couple of sentences explaining how you can be involved in this way.
