  1. Friday Journal Dear Families, Dear Parents,            Welcome to 2nd grade….you have been assigned some homework!  I’m sure you’ve asked your child before “what did you learn in school today?” only to hear a reply that sounds something like “Nothing!”.  This journal is a weekly writing assignment that will help spark conversation with your child about what is done in class.             Each Friday your child will be writing an entry in their writing journal.  Their entry will be addressed to you telling you some of the great things we learned in school this week.  We will begin the year writing our letters together as a class.  As the year progresses,  Students will eventually be writing their own letter.  Their journal will be brought home every Friday.  Please take a moment over the weekend to read your child’s entry.  Your homework is to respond to your child by writing a note back to them in their journal. You can either write at the bottom of their letter, or on the backside of the page.  This is a great opportunity for you to encourage your child and to let them know you are proud of them! Your note can be school related, or about what is going on at home.  These are private and students will not be reading them to the class.  I will check their entry each Friday for completion. Students need to bring back their journal on Monday morning.  They will read your entry during morning work time.  Thank you for taking the time to showyour child that you care for them!  -Ms.Sowder p.s. Please write in print. p.p.s  Stickers, pictures or anything you’d like to add would be a great addition! 
