Outline of Global Mapping Project • International cooperation of National Mapping Organizationsto develop basic global geospatial information for sustainable development • International Steering Committee for Global Mapping (ISCGM) • 20 members incl. Heads of 17 NMOs • Chair : Prof. D.R.F. Taylor (Carleton Univ, Canada) • Secretariat: Geospatial Information Authority of Japan • Participation of 166 countries and 16 regions (as of 2012-08-01)

About Global Map dataset • Digital geographic dataset • Covering the whole land areaof the earth • With consistent specifications • Open to the public • ・freely downloadable for non-commercial use • Update interval: 5 yearsto be achieved • Spatial resolution:1km • (equivalent to 1:1,000,000scale) • 8layersincluding drainage, transportation, elevation, • land cover, land use, and vegetation
