  2. Parts and functions of the Plant • Petals • Sepals • Stamen • Anther • Pistil • Ovary

  3. Petals • Are leaf like structurally • Usually have colorful structures arranged in a circle around the top of a flower stem. Why are most flowers bright colors?

  4. Sepals • Modified leaves that surround the developing flower. What is the purpose of the Sepals? To protect the flower and prevent it from drying out!

  5. Stamen • Is the MALE reproductive structure of a flower. • Produces pollen.

  6. Anther • It is located on the top of the stamens. • Holds the pollen

  7. Pistils • Is the FEMALE reproductive structure of a flower • Is needed for pollination

  8. One or More Pistil Lily Buttercup

  9. Ovary • Is the bottom portion of the pistil • Each ovary contains an egg • When pollen from the male portion of the plant reaches the ovary and fertilization occurs the ovary grows into the fruit or vegetable.
