  2. What is pelvic floor muscles • It is the sheath of the muscular structure occupying the outlet of pelvis • It includes all the tissues from skin of the perineum to the superior fascia of levator ani muscle above

  3. Anatomy • It is pierced by the 3 muscle • Urethra • Vagina • Anal canal • Structures of the pelvic floor muscles • Skin of the perineum • urogenital region • Levator ani muscle

  4. Pelvic floor muscles Superficial muscle Deep muscles Bulbocavenous Levator ani muscles Ischiocavenous Pubococcygeous Urethral sphincter Ileococcygeous External anal sphincter Ischiococcygeous transverse perineum

  5. FUNCTIONS • Closure of pelvic outlet. • Support to the pelvic organs and viscera. • Helps in micturationby raising the intra-abdominal pressure. • Control the sphincteric action of the urethra, vagina, and rectum

  6. Nerve supply • 4 th sacral nerve • Pudendal nerve • Inferior hemorrhoid nerve
