Technology Infused Lesson Tracie King ED 402
Wednesday, November 14, 2012 • To introduce subject and predicates, I ask the class to listen to me sing a song that I learned in elementary school • A verb starts off the predicate part of a sentence A sen-tence, sen-tence, sen-tence, has five parts, parts, parts. It has a sub-ject and a verb and it makes sense. It has a cap-it-al let-ter and an end mark, mark. Now that’s the five parts of a sen-tence, aren’t we SMART!
Next I show the students a PowerPoint on subjects and predicates. WHY ARE THEY IMPORTANT?
Omar, Daviontae, and Esmeralda are taking notes from PowerPoint on SMARTBoard.
Schedule • Then , I explain to the students ways you can distinguish between subjects and predicates. • Nouns names a person, place, or things. • The complete predicate of a sentence tells what the subject does or is. It includes a verb and all other details that describe what is going on. • There are two types of verbs • Tells what the subject is doing (Action- what you can see) • Shows a state of being (You cannot see)
Students are being active listeners and participating in discussion with me.
Members of Each Group Receive Individual Instruction I am explaining the worksheet to Tyler about how to label and distinguish between subjects and predicates.
Subjects & Predicates • Circle the subject and write out the complete predicate for each sentence. • Name: Date: • ( 1 ) Christopher just got his grade report. • ( 2 ) Zachary surprised me with his test score. • ( 3 ) A loud crash could be heard. • ( 4 ) Korea exports many cars and trucks. • ( 5 ) Nobody believed that the rocket would work. • ( 6 ) Michael wrote about his vacation. • ( 7 ) The cars raced around the track. • ( 8 ) The emergency lights flickered on when the power went out. • ( 9 ) Kimberly laid down on the bed. • (10) The soldier ran for cover when he heard the shot. • (11) Evan caused a lot of trouble for his teammates. • (12) The waiter should be here soon with the check.
Receiving hands on experience wasn’t exactly a walk in the park
