English 10- 9/26/11 • MAPS Testing in MS Lab 1st Period; HS Lab 2nd and 7th. • What do you think the clothing you are wearing could say about you? • What does Mr. Buffalo say to Buffalo Jr. as he leaves for work? • Sharpshooter – Current legal slang for a lawyer that aimes at loop-holes. Goals – Examine an issue that may be worth debating. Think about how research can improve the situation. Homework – Make a list of five issues in your life that you think are potentially worth researching and debating. Don’t forget about MAPS testing tomorrow. Bring a book.

English 10- 9/27/11 • What do you think the clothing you are wearing could say about you? • What do you call a row of bunnies walking backwards? • Tmesis – the separation of a compound word by an intervening word; e.g. “un-stinking-believable.” Goals – Discover issues to debate. Homework – None.

  3. English 10- 9/28/11 • What useful skill do you think you could possibly learn from debate? • Did you hear about the blue silkworm and the red silkworm that had a race? Do you know which of them won? • Tacenda – those things which should not be mentioned. Goals – Chose debate topics. Figure out what makes an effective debater. Develop a list of strategies to learn. Homework – Make a list of five strategies that you might use effectively for research and debate.

  4. English 10- 9/29/11 • What issues are important in your life? In the life of Okanogan High School? In the world? • How many Microsoft programmers does it take to change a light bulb? • Tapinosis – use of degrading diction when talking to someone. Goals – Watch final videos and learn how to conduct a “moving debate” to clarify ideas. Homework – Don’t forget to study Vocabulary # 5 for quiz tomorrow.

  5. English 10 - 10/30/11 • Five minutes to review for the vocabulary quiz. • Ethernet: what you use to catch the Ether Bunny • Rumbelow – a combination of meaningless syllables; e.g. “yo, ho, ho!” Goals – Complete Week 5 vocabulary study. Poem of the week. Homework – none.
