  9. 4 Tips to a successful 2nd Semester Students sometimes feel like they’ve run a marathon when the first semester of school ends. Depending on individual circumstances, students may truly have put in more effort than usual this semester. • Write Long and Short – Term Goals: One of the best ways to improve performance is to create academic goals and write them down.  • End the First Semester Positively:Remember all your success and goals from 1st semester and work to do even better 2nd semester. • Re-organize School Supplies: Treat the start of the second semester like the start of a new school year. Clean up your backpack, organized your pencils and revamp anything that is old and worn out [folders, binders, etc]. • Organize Your Calendar. One of the best ways to manage your time is to keep a detailed calendar of your assignment deadlines. Start early with 2nd semester.

  10. What is the FASFA? LOOK!!! All 12th graders • The FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This form is used to determine the amount of money a family is expected to contribute to the price of attending a postsecondary institution. The results of the FAFSA are used in determining student grants, work study, and loan amounts. • The FAFSA application is criticalbecause it is used for Federal Pell Grants as well as California State Grants and other financial aid offered by colleges and universities. You must apply separately for many scholarships.

  11. How can I complete the FAFSA? There are three ways to complete a FAFSA: • Online (FAFSA on the Web) at www.fafsa.gov (recommended) • PDF FAFSA (download file) at www.studentaid.ed.gov/PDFfafsa • Paper FAFSA (request a copy by calling 1-800-4-FED-AID [1-800-433-3243]).   Applying online is generally faster and easier; however is not the only way. There is a pen and paper model too.

  12. Where you can use your FAFSA award money?

  13. What you need to complete your FAFSA As you complete the FAFSA, you—and your parents, or guardians—should have the following records available to help you answer questions on the application: • Federal State Aid PIN [see CCC for more info on how] PIN will serve as an identifier and as your electronic signature. It works much like the personal identification number you get from your bank. You can apply for a PIN from within FAFSA on the Web or at the Federal Student Aid PIN website at www.pin.ed.gov • Social Security card • Driver’s license (if any) • Permanent Resident Receipt Card (if applicable) • W-2 forms and other 2012 records of money earned • 2012 income tax return (see the instructions on the FAFSA if the tax return has not been completed) • Records of child support paid • Current stock, bond, and other investment records • Current bank statements, business and farm records. Am I eligible for federal student aid? In general, to receive aid from the federal student aid programs, you must meet the following requirements: • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen. • Have a high school diploma • Enroll or be accepted for enrollment in an eligible program as a regular student seeking a degree or certificate. • Be registered with Selective Service if required (in general, if you are a male age 18 through 25). • Meet satisfactory academic progress standards set by your school. • Certify that you are not in default on a federal loan or owe money on a federal grant. • Certify that you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes.
