1. Strategy Reloaded:Always Learning! 8 Key Lessons since iCON 2010 Steve Smith

2. 1) Heart & 4 Fields Framework • A basic skeletal FRAMEWORK of the most essential components for CPMs • Leaving out any can slow down or stop the work • Extraneous efforts can distract the work • Allows endless morphing of plans/methods without losing the principles

3. Heart & 4 Fields Framework • Find God-Prepared Fields (People) through bridges to the gospel (sow a lot!) • Reproducing Evangelism • Reproducing Discipleship • Short-term – 8-10 simple lessons; 3/3 process • Long-term – inductive Bible Study • Reproducing Churches / groups (Acts 2:37-47) • Reproducing Leaders (Titus 1:5-9, Acts 14:23) Reproducing Generation by Generation (4+ Generations = the key to a movement)

4. Four Fields CPM Plan VISION - FATHER’S HEART (Mt 6:9-10, Acts 1:8) G4(2 Tim 2:2) SEGMENTS(Mt 13:31-33) 5-15 Segments • ABIDING in CHRIST • (Psa 78:72, • Mt 11:12, 17:20) • Desperate for God • Desp for vision • Faith • PRAYER • (Mt 6:9-10, Lk 10:2, • 11:5-13, Acts 1:14) • By you & team • By outsiders • By nationals • Let’s draw it together. • For your personal application • For training partners

Know what to do when they say yes? 1. God-prepared FIELDS (Lk 10:6; Mk 1:17) 2. 7. 2) Six-Stage CPM Continuum & Coaching • The basic STAGES that a CPM goes through • Coaching teams where they get stuck along the way • Everyone gets stuck at 1) a part of the 4 fields or 2) a generation • We focus on pushing through “stuckages” • We ask, “What 1-2 things are most important to help you move to the next stage?”

8. The 6-Stage CPM Continuum • Helping every team that is engaging be effectively moving forward along the CPM Continuum. • 1-Unsure – unsure of how to proceed toward CPM or no plan • 2– Moving purposefully 0 to 1 – trying to consistently establish 1st generation believers & churches • 2.5 - 0 to 1 with 1st gen believers/groups already • 3– Moving purposefully 1 to 2 – Consistent 1st & some 2nd gen churches • 4– Near CPM - consistent 2nd, some 3rd gen churches • 5– Emerging CPM - consistent 3rd gen churches, some 4th • 6– Sustained CPM - consistent 4th generation churches; multiple streams are started

9. 3) 70-80% Effectiveness Principle • My estimate based on observation: • 20-30% of effectiveness comes from training • 70-80% comes from coaching / follow-up after training • E.g. Sending of 12 and 70 • Without the coaching, many teams give up on the training they received • Coaching helps you work through the reality of stuckages • Especially important with T4T

10. 4) Coaching National Partners • Finding and equipping nationals continues to remain paramount in getting to CPM • The 70-80% Rule is even more critical with national partners • They must be coached through the 4 fields generation by generation • T4T is a good example • We must coach beyond the first tier of leadership

11. 5) Houses of Peace – Lk 10:5-9 • Getting to groups of believers: • Win a person of peace and coach him to win his household • Win a group together (e.g. discovery Bible study) • Key to 2nd Generation: Within minutes or hours, do TWO things – FOLLOW & FISH • FOLLOW: Baptize & Help them Count the Cost • FISH • WHY - Give them VISION (“you & household”) • WHOM - NAME LIST – List their oikos. Coach them. • HOW- PROCLAMATION – Testimony; coach them on contextually appropriate gospel witness

12. Houses of Peace • Who initiated the salvation of the household? • How did the household come to faith? Which were 2nd generation? • When were they baptized? • What impact did the POP & HOP have? • Give a brief profile of the Person of Peace • What lessons can we apply in winning households of peace? • Cornelius: Acts 10:1-11:18 • Sam woman: Jn 4:7-42 • Levi: Lk 5:27-32, Mk 2:14-17 • Jailer: Acts 16:23-34 • Zaccheus: Lk 19:1-10 • Lazarus: Jn 11:1-46, 12:9-11 • Demoniac: Mk 5:1-20; 7:31 / Mt 15:29-31 • Lydia: Acts 16:14-15, 40 • Corinth: Acts 18:4-11; 1 Cor 1:14-17, 16:15-18

13. 6) Emphasis on “Abnormal People” Finding breakthrough people who do not respond “normally” but “abnormally”

14. 7) Adapting the T4T Process Every CPM employs processes similar to T4T If people do not adapt T4T to their context, they give up on it Above all, retain the 3/3 process – giving believers the confidence and competence to win and train others to start new generations Come up with your own T4T adaptation and call it what you want

15. 8) Church Circles to help groups become churches
