  6. The 3 ships Supported Internships Traineeships Apprenticeships

  7. Supported Internships • Supported internships are structured study programmes based primarily at an employer. • Normally last for a year and include unpaid work placements of at least six months. Also expected to improve English & Maths to an appropriate level. • Intended to support the young person to move into paid employment at the end of the programme. • Those with a learning disability must have anEHCP (Educational, Health and Care plan)

  8. Traineeships • An education and training programme with work experience of between 100 and 240 hours. • Trainees must want to work as the traineeship can last between 6 weeks and 6 months mainly in the workplace. • Designed to help young people aged 16 to 24 who don’t yet have the experienceto secure paid work. • The destination of a traineeship is either paid work or an apprenticeship • Improving with English & Maths skills is also part of the traineeship.

  9. Apprenticeships • Paid work whilst learning specific job related skills in the workplace • Minimum timeframe is 12 months • Study involved as will be working towards specific standards • Eligibility for PWLD, must be able to achieve an Entry 3 levelin English & Maths by the end of the programme • Mencap are leading by example as we are presently recruiting 12 apprentices with a plan to recruit another 12 next year.
