(What should you be able to do?)

  5. Situations that could lead to trouble… • Hunting • Hiking • Mountain biking • Horseback riding • Skiing • Backpacking • More???????????

  6. The Numero Uno Rule…. Tell someone where you are going. What time do you expect to be back? Don’t say “I’m just..blah blah”

  7. Rule Numero Dos… Be Prepared!!!! More to come on this one…

  8. You are stranded….what 3 things must you do, right away!?!? • Sit Down • Take a drink of water • Sit for 30 minutes….. * You have a greater chance of being found if you stay put! * The adrenaline needs time to be processed.

  9. Next, what are your priorities??? Signal Shelter Fire

  10. What About Nourishment??? Rule of 3’s… You can survive 3 hours without shelter 3 days without water 3 weeks without food

  11. Review…What are 4 important ideas you gained from today’s class? • 1.Remember Rule # 1…. • 2. You must maintain 98.6 degrees. • 3. You must keep yourself hydrated. • 4. Stay put and signal when possible.

Period 7 Kim Family • Positive: did stay in one place, strong will to live, mom stayed after dad left, utilized resources—burning tires, running car on and off, rationed snacks, nursed kids, followed water • Negative: did not tell where/when, dad went through water, went off road, followed the water, left family, ripped up map…, took off clothes, not proper clothes, went too far hiking, vehicle wasn’t good for snow

  24. Period 7 Aron Ralston • Positive: desire to live, prepared some supplies, experienced, remained calm, lived to tell the story, • Negative: did not know the area well, lost hope, ran out of food and water, did not tell anyone where/when, lost his arm, not properly dressed

Period 8 Kim Family • Positive: ripped up map/tracking, used resources wisely: tires, mom nursed kids, family stayed put (For a while), rationed food, followed creek, dad had strong will to live, family sent care package—from family, ran car sporadically • Negative: went in water, dad left car, went off road, took off clothes, dad was frustrated, lost positive attitude, dad did not make it, did not tell where,

Period 8 Aron Ralston • Positive: strong will to live, had some tools, kept stable frame of mind, cut his own arm off, packed some supplies, made video to alert, highly skilled and trained, did not freak out/stayed calm, used resources…amputation, great movie seller • Negative: didn’t tell anyone where/when, put lives in danger, lost will to live/accepted death, went to difficult area/knew it wasn’t safe, wasted energy carving, lost an arm, wasn’t traveled often, far from car, had to drink urine

  31. Tomorrow! • Outside: please dress for the weather! 23 degrees 7:00am • We Will: 1. search for mammal signs 2. attempt to use metal match to start a fire (a very, very small one!)
