  1. Algebra 09.28.18 Bellringer on Goformative! Objective:I can solve a system of linear equations algebraically, using elimination.

  2. Learning Target I CAN solve a system of equations algebraically by ELIMINATION. http://mathforum.org/library/drmath/view/70225.html

  3. Agenda: Notes/Examples of Elimination (my fav!) Partner Tic-Tac-Toe Desmos Systems Activity with Health Club https://teacher.desmos.com/activitybuilder/custom/561d6a790784861e06c3a6dc

  4. How to do elimination? Looks crazy but it works. I will tell you why it works later.

  5. 2 2 y = 3

  6. 2 2 y = 3 -3 -3 x = 1

  7. Ex 1: Elimination Method x – y = 11 2x + y = 19

  8. WHY?

  9. We can +, -, * or / as long as we do the same to both sides a=b c=d could add “c” to the first equation: a+c=b+c

  10. We can +, -, * or / as long as we do the same to both sides a=b c=d And since c=d, I could add c to one side and d to other a+c=b+d

  11. Ex 2: Elimination Method 4x + 8y = 20 -4x + 2y = -30

  12. Ex 3: Elimination Method 7x + 2y = 24 8x + 2y = 30

  13. Ex 4: Elimination Method 5x + y = 9 10x - 7y = -18

  14. Tic-Tac-Toe You and your partner each need a piece of paper to show your work. One person is “X” the other is “O.” Take turns choosing and solving a problem. While one solves, the other checks on MATHWAY.COM. Find the solution on the board and mark your letter. The first to get 4 in a row, diagonal, or column wins.

  15. Solo Practice p. 509 #7 & 9 p. 522 #5, 6, 7

  16. Exit Ticket Solve the system by elimination: A no solution B y =0 C x = 4.5 D x=-12
