WHAT IS THE PERSONAL PROJECT? • the result of a self-directed inquiry within a global context • shouldbebasedaroundthetopicthatmotivatesyou • shouldreflectthedevelopmentofthe ATL skills, attitudes and knowledge acquired in the MYP • shouldresultinresponsible action through, or as a result of learning • IB requirement for all MYP students in year 5

  4. A PRODUCT OR OUTCOME • an original work ofart-pieceofcreativewriting, a sculpture, a musicpiece, a song, etc. • a model • a business plan • a campaign • a blueprint or architecturaldrawing • anessay • a courseofstudy • a debate • a film/video

  5. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF PPcorrespond to theAssesmentcriteria for PP • Objective A – Investigating ( CriterionA- max8) • Objective B – Planning ( CriterionB-max 8) • Objective C – Takingaction (CriterionC-max 8) • ObjectiveD – Reflecting (CriterionD- max8)

COMPLETING THE PERSONAL PROJECTyou are expected to: • document the process in the Process Journal • select a topic of personal interest • focus the personal project through ONE global context • structure the personal project report according to the information provided in theguide • respect word or time limits for the report • fulfil ethical and academic honesty requirements

What is processjournal?A documentwhereyou: •documentthe planning and the development of the project, • keepuseful information (photos, quotes, comments, notes, mind-maps, ideas, etc.) • recordtheinteractions with sources, for example, teachers, supervisors, etc. • explore ideas and solutions • record selected, annotated and/or edited research and to maintain a bibliography • reflect on stages of the project and demonstrate your reflection on learning • evaluate completed work It is NOT a diary used on daily basis with detailed writing about what was done. Itcanbebe written,visual, audio or a combination of these and might include both paper and electronic formats.

  8. IDENTIFYING THE GLOBAL CONTEXT OF THE PP • What do I want to achieve through my personal project? • What do I want others to understand through my work? • What impact do I want my project to have? • How can a specific context give greater purpose to my project?

  9. GLOBAL CONTEXTS • identities and relationships • orientation in space and time • personal and cultural expression • scientific and technical innovation • globalization and sustainability • fairness and development

  10. CREATING CRITERIA FOR THE PRODUCT/OUTCOME • define realistic criteria/ specificationsto measure the quality of the project’s final outcome or product • document the criteria/specificationsin the process journal • use them to assess the final outcome or product

REPORTING THE PERSONAL PROJECT • a written report 1,500 – 3,500 words in the format of an academic report • electronic ( website, blog, slideshow) 1,500-3,500 words • an oral report ( podcast, radio broadcast ,recorded) 13-15 minutes • visual ( film) 13-15 minutes The report does not replace the product/outcome of the personal project Structureofthewrittenreport: • Title page, table ofcontents, bodyofthereport, bibliography or reference list, appendices

THE SUPERVISOR IS • an MYP teacher whose responsibility is to guide you and advise you while working on your personal project • an MYP teacher with whom you meet on regular basis whilst working on the PP • responsible for the assessment of the project • if necessary some other professional outside the school who could help/advise you with PP

PHASE 1 OF PP • choosea topicandsubmitthetopic to the MYP coordinatorbyMonday, June 2nd 2014 • ByThursday , June 5th,2014 supervisorwillbeassignedandthe list oftopics, studentsandsupervisorswillbeposted on the MYP noticeboardacrossfromtheMYPCoordinator's office • Bythelastdayofthisschoolyear,Friday 13th,2014 you MUST have ONE meetingwiththesupervisor

PHASE 2 OF PP September 2014 -INVESTIGATING • Identify prior learning • Outlineoftopic- decide on thegoaland global context • Decide on productandoutcome • Initialresearch period-selectrelevantresourcesandevaluatethem • Begindevelopmentofcriteria/specifications to evaluatetheproductby • Plan meetingswithsupervisor • Keeptheprocessjournalnotes/entries

  15. PHASE 3 OF PP October,November 2014- PLANNING • Finalizethecriteria/specifications for theproduct/outcome • Continueresearch – select, evaluateandacknowledgeinformation • Work on product/outcome • Meetwithsupervisor on regularbasis • Keeptheprocessjournal notes /entries

  16. PHASE 4 OF PP December 2014,January 2015TAKING ACTION • Continueworking on , andcompleteproduct/outcome • Writethereport on the PP andsubmitthefirstdraft to thesuperviosor • Continuemeetingswiththesupervisor • Keeptheprocessjournal notes/entries

  17. PHASE 5 OF PPFebruary 2015- REFLECTING • Evaluatethequalityoftheproduct/outcomeagainstthecriteria/specifications • Reflect on learning • Completereportandsubmitthefinaldraft to thesupervisor

  18. PP festivalMarch 14, 2015 • Presentation /exhibition/showcaseof all PPs at theSchooldayfestival • Parents, MYP4 students,otherteachers are all invited

  19. KEEPING DEADLINES • IN CASE YOU FAIL TO FOLLOW/ KEEP THE DEADLINES THERE WILL BE POINTS TAKEN OFF THE PP NO PERSONAL PROJECT ( FINAL DRAFT) WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THE DETERMINED DEADLINE !!!!!!!!
