  1. Personal Project Presentations Your Presentations will be the end of February and beginning of march!

  2. First: What to Bring • Your Process Journal • Your Final Product and/or Evidence • Your Annotated Bibliography • Any Visuals you need (PowerPoint, notecards, poster, etc.) • Your Mentor or Some Other Support Person (optional, but nice)

  3. What To Say… • Greet the Panel – say hello, state your first and last name, thank them for coming. • State your original GOAL. – Why did you choose this goal? What were your specifications? • State your original Global Context– Explain WHY you chose this GC. Explain HOW your project fits this GC.

  4. What To Say… • Explain what kind of research you did before and during your project. – Which resources were helpful? Which were not? Explain. • How did your research help you with your project. – focus on 4 vital sources to your project and explain HOW you applied the info to you project. • STEPS !! – Describe the steps that you took to create your project/product. Explain how each step relates to you GC.

  5. What To Say… • Reflect – reflect on the steps you took to creat your project/product. • Did you encounter any problems/Obstacles? If so, how did you fix these problems/obstacles? • Did it take longer than you thought it would? • Did you need more help than expected?

  6. What To Say… • Express your overall personal thoughts about your project/product. • What did you learn about yourself, topic, mentor (POSITIVE) • What would you do differently next time? Explain. • What did you learn about your GC?Did it change throughout your process? If so, explain. • How have you developed as a learner?

  7. What To Say… • Can you see yourself pursuing your topic in the future? (Welding, Hunting, quilting, etc.) • Express your POSITIVE overall feelings about your personal project goal! • Thank the panel for coming in to listen to your presentation!!! • SMILE!

Note Cards • Note Cards are only a guide and not intended to be read word for word aloud! • Here are some tips for writing your Note Cards • Number each note card in the left hand corner • Give each card a 1-2 word title at the top. • DO NOT WRITE IN PARAGRAPH FORM! Do not even write in complete sentences! • Use bullets for each of your main points for each note card. • MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A NOTE CARD ON YOUR GC!!!!

Note Cards • The information, steps, and tips that I have provided you will ONLY help you with your presentation if YOU invest your TIME! • REMEMBER: The panel that will listen to you wants you to succeed! They are interested in what you have done and care about your project and the process you chose. Be honest and elaborate on your points. RELAX and ENJOY; this is just a fancy show and tell! • GOOD LUCK!

  10. Grading Scale • Your final outcome was graded when you turned your project to me in February (Criterion E). • Your Process journal has already been graded. (Criterion A). • Everything else will be graded through your oral report in March.

  11. Grading Scale • Criterion B: Goal Definition. • Make sure you: Justify effectively the topic of interest, the chosen GC, and an achievable and appropriately challenging goal, as well as achievable and appropriately challenging specifications.

  12. Grading Scale • Criterion C: Selection of Sources. • Make sure you… • Show that you have selected a wide variety of relevant sources to achieve your goal. • Demonstrate well-developed evaluation of your sources.

  13. Grading Scale • Criterion D: Application of Information • Make sure you… • Demonstrate well-developed transfer and application of information to make decisions, create solutions, and develop understandings in connection with the project’s goal.

Grading Scale • Criterion F: Reflection. • Make sure you… • Demonstrate well-developed reflection on how completing the project has extended your knowledge and understanding of both your topic and the GC. • Demonstrate well-developed reflection on how you have developed as a learner by completing this project. • All of the previous criteria will be graded based on the evidence you provide in your oral report. In addition, the report itself will receive a grade – Criterion G.

Grading Scale • Criterion G: Reporting the Project. • Make sure you demonstrate… • Consistent organization of the report • Clear, coherent, and concise communication that is within the required limits (10 minutes!) • Accurate use of recognized conventions to acknowledge sources. Your annotate bibliography should be completed according to MLA format. When mentioning sources in your presentation, include the following info: • Name • Author • Format (Video, Book, Website, Magazine, Etc.)

  16. Grading Scale • In addition, be sure to… • Speak clearly and loud enough for the panel to hear • Use proper grammar!!!!! • Proofread your visual aids for errors – spelling, grammar, etc.

REMEMBER • The Best way to breeze through your presentation is to BE PREPARED and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!!!!! • Practice in front of your family, your friends, your stuffed animals, your dog, a tree, the mirror… and ask for feedback! • The more times you practice the better your presentation will be.

  19. The Next Step • Since you have completed your personal projects and your process journals have been graded. It is now time to prepare for you Presentations. • Requirements • You MUST have Note Cards with you in class on Friday February 6, 2014. • Your note Cards will be due to me, at the beginning of class on Monday February , 2014. NO EXCEPTIONS! • You MUST turn in at least 11 notecards. • Each note card MUST be numbered in the top left corner. • Each of the following MUST be addressed on your note cards…
