  2. What is Turbidity? • Turbidity is the measure of degree of which the water loses its transparency. • It is measured in NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Units) • The lower the NTU the clearer the water.

  3. What Cause Turbidity? • Sediments from erosion (Dirt) • Algae Growth (e.g. Algae from school pond made it cloudy). • Urban Runoff (Water running down street into a lake or river. • Resuspended sediments from the bottom (e.g. Silt from school pond)

  4. Environmental Problems from Turbidity • Turbidity can limit a fish vision. • At a very high level of turbidity it can affect a fish growth and survival (e.g. interfering with gill function). • Turbidity usual only affects fresh water fish because turbidity in the ocean is not as bad.
