  3. God Is Holy • 2:3,10 – the grain offerings – • 5:15 - the holy things of the LORD • 6:16 – the court yard – a holy place • 6:26 – sin offering – it is most holy • 7:1 – the guilt offering. It is most holy • 8:9 – the turban on the priest – • the holy crown • The Holy place – • The holy of Holies (or holiest of All)

  4. Those who approach God must be HOLY • Be YE holy – for I am Holy • 11:44-45 • 19:2 • 20:7 • 20:26

  6. Problem is SIN … • Based upon God’s righteousness • Will not DO unrighteousness • Will not ACCEPT unrighteousness • Based upon demands of LAW • Sin  DIE • Based upon reality of OUR SIN • ALL have sinned

  7. ANSWER is forgiveness. • Penalty – separation from God • OR – mercy / forgiveness • There is MERCY – Ex. 34:6-7 • Psalm 130:4 – • Daniel 9:9

  8. Problem is righteousness • NOT ‘acquit’ the guilty – • NOT just overlook – • NOT just pretend It didn’t happen HOW can God be Righteous AND Merciful

  9. ANSWER – sacrifice • Penalty paid – DEATH • but by ANOTHER • Old Testament ? • sacrifice for atonement – • blood of bulls / goats • time after time… • year after year …

  10. Problem: Blood of bulls / goats • NOT take away sin of MEN • Heb 10:4 For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. • Also – not other MEN - • they die for own sin

  11. ANSWER – Christ, our perfect lamb of God… • Matt. 1:21 – save his people from their sins • John 1:29 – takes away the sin • Matt. 26:28 – for the forgiveness of sins • 1 John 1:7 – cleanses us from all sin • Rev. 1:5 – freed us from our sins

  12. Conditions ? • Believe – Heb. 11:6; John 8:24; Mark 16:16 • Repent – Acts 17:30, Luke 24:47 • Baptized – Acts 2:38

  13. Expectations ? • 1 Peter 1:14-16 • 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, • 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, • 16 since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."

  14. Conditions ? • Believe – Heb. 11:6; John 8:24; Mark 16:16 • Repent – Acts 17:30, Luke 24:47 • Baptized – Acts 2:38
