  5. Easy Access Designed for Large RV access throughout (Church Buses – no problem!)

  6. History Wesley Community Centers, Hampton United Methodist Church, and Atlanta Motor Speedway partnered together to hold the first “Wesley Speedway Walk for Others” in Spring 2008. Even under difficult economic conditions, the partnership prevailed with the second walk at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2009. We are excited to bring our third Wesley Walk South experience on May 22, 2010.

  7. And they’re off!

  8. How Do We “Do All the Good We Can” through this Walk? The concept is simple. Walkers get sponsors (inside or outside the church) to agree to provide them a donation for walking in the event. Everyone in the church can participate as either a sponsor or a walker or both! All the proceeds raised go directly towards Wesley Community Centers to support their ministry in metro Atlanta through Project Extend, Camp Wesley, and the Bethlehem Senior Center.

  9. Project Extend Helps keep low-income, elderly people in the metro Atlanta area from becoming homeless by maintaining and repairing their homes. After Before

  10. Camp Wesley A program for children and youth who come from challenging circumstances all over the metro Atlanta area.

  11. Bethlehem Senior Center A downtown Atlanta community center that improves the quality of life of many who have few resources.

  12. Wesley Speedway Walk for Others Children Friendly! Bring the whole Family!

  13. Build a Church Team! (Bus or Car caravan)

  14. Most people walk – those who wish to run are placed at the beginning of the starting block!

  15. Unique to this Walk We walk around the outer perimeter road of the Atlanta Motor Speedway. The distance is 2.1 miles. The road is paved and relatively flat. For those who have been patrons of the track, we are walking the bus loop around the raceway. The Atlanta Motor Speedway makes their restrooms available to us for the walk. We provide “chase vehicles” that continuously loop around the walkathon to provide assistance if needed. We begin at 9 am and most people are beginning their return home well before noon.

  16. A Chase Vehicle Assists a Walker

  17. How Do We Begin? Simply invite someone to serve as your “Church Walk Coordinator” and have that person call or email Sue Raymond from Wesley Community Centers at (404)-872-0086 or sueraymond@bellsouth.net. She will lovingly guide you into the process if you have never been involved in a Wesley Walk event before. The process is very easy.

  18. Helpful people are everywhere! That’s Sue

  19. Registration at the Restrooms (for the walk, the restrooms don’t require registration!)

  20. Griffin District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Mike Cash begins the 2009 walk (it’s a checkered flag because everyone who participates is a winner!)

  21. Walkers who bring in a donation of $25 or more receive the “coveted” Wesley Speedway Walk Shirt Walkers who bring in $100 or more, also receive the Wesley Speedway Walk Hat

  22. Not everyone walks at the same pace and that’s ok! (The pastor says he was praying, but we don’t think so!!!)

  23. “Popular” warm-up time before the walk begins

  24. The Walk is monitored closely by the Wesley Community Center Staff Team Joy Magnus Executive Director

  25. “Styling” at the Walk!

  26. Thank you! We wish to thank the hard working people at Wesley Community Centers who staff this event aided by some volunteers from local churches. A special thank you goes to the Management Team of the Atlanta Motor Speedway who continue to allow us free use of their facility to support this ministry effort. Let us always return their hospitality with our hospitality by treating their facilities with the utmost care and respect.

  27. Our Dream is that one day it might look like this! Will you help us make this happen?
