Who we are • EMSI stands for Economic Modelling Specialists International • Based in Moscow, Idaho, in the northwest corner of the United States. Moved into the UK a couple of years ago. We currently work with 92 Colleges in the UK • Labour Market Information (LMI) specialists • Probably the most Customer focused Company you will ever meet. We ‘Bless’ our Customers Andy Liddell Business Development Manager (Midlands) andy.liddell@economicmodelling.co.uk WWW.ECONOMICMODELLING.CO.UK @EMSI_UK
What we do • We source quality LMI and turn it into useful information that helps organisations understand the connection between Economies, people and the work place. • We design user-friendly tools that help Educational Institutions, Workforce Planners and Regional Developers build a better workforce and improve the economic conditions in their regions. The LMI challenge facing FE Colleges Objective information is out there, but it presents Colleges with three main difficulties: • Difficult to source • Really difficult to make sense of • Even more difficult to analyse and then use to good effect Andy Liddell Business Development Manager (Midlands) andy.liddell@economicmodelling.co.uk WWW.ECONOMICMODELLING.CO.UK @EMSI_UK
Our Data • We gather over 30 data sets, mostly from Government sources • EMSI economists analyse the data sets concerned, taking the strengths and discarding the weaknesses. These sets are then merged to provide multi-layered cross-checking • In total, this creates over 20 million data points for the UK, split into Government Office Regions, Counties and Local Authority areas • The data is updated yearly Andy Liddell Business Development Manager (Midlands) andy.liddell@economicmodelling.co.uk WWW.ECONOMICMODELLING.CO.UK @EMSI_UK
Major Data sources include: • Business Register Employment Survey (BRES) • Workforce Jobs Series (WJS) • Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) • Labour Force Survey (LFS) • Annual Population Survey (APS) • Working Futures (WF) • Mid-Year Population Estimates • Subnational Population Projections • Annual Business Inquiry (ABI) Andy Liddell Business Development Manager (Midlands) andy.liddell@economicmodelling.co.uk WWW.ECONOMICMODELLING.CO.UK @EMSI_UK
What we then do with this Data Andy Liddell Business Development Manager (Midlands) andy.liddell@economicmodelling.co.uk WWW.ECONOMICMODELLING.CO.UK @EMSI_UK
Economic Impact Studies • The report calculates the net impact of an institution to the Region it serves, in terms of value to Learners, Businesses, Taxpayers and the Community • This data is provided in a presentation-ready report, giving solid evidence of an institution’s social and economic impact Andy Liddell Business development Manager (Midlands) andy.liddell@economicmodelling.co.uk WWW.ECONOMICMODELLING.CO.UK @EMSI_UK
Analyst • In 2003, we started building a tool using the LMI we had collected for the Impact Studies • Analyst is a comprehensive web-based Labour Market research and analysis tool that gives a College instant access to key local information on jobs and skills across Industries and Occupations • Its main use in FE Colleges is in the areas of Curriculum Planning, course provision and Employer Engagement Andy Liddell Business Development Manager (Midlands) andy.liddell@economicmodelling.co.uk WWW.ECONOMICMODELLING.CO.UK @EMSI_UK
Career Coach • In 2008, EMSI created a second web-based tool to help Learners and job seekers access good, local Labour Market data to gain the right career vision • Career Coach informs current and prospective Students how the education Colleges provide will lead to sustainable careers that interest them • The main area of use for FE Colleges is in the area of Careers guidance and Marketing Andy Liddell Business development Manager andy.liddell@economicmodelling.co.uk WWW.ECONOMICMODELLING.CO.UK @EMSI_UK
