11. NCAA BYLAW 20 Overall Department Requirements • All institutions must have 10 total sports. • Five men and five women; or • Four men and six women. Sport Requirements To officially sponsor a sport: • Team sport = participate in and complete minimum number of contests. • Individual sport = participate in and complete minimum number of contests with the minimum required number of participants. What if we don’t meet the minimums in a sport? • If department falls below overall sponsorship requirements, full program could be placed on probation and eventually lose Division II membership status. • If sport is not needed to meet overall department minimums, your conference may still be impacted. • Automatic qualification. • Loss of grant funds. 41. Four-Year College Transfers Recruiting + Eligibility

44. Recruiting Legislation

45. Permission to Contact • Before making recruiting contact with a four-year college transfer from an NCAA institution, your institution must have permission to contact that individual. • Permission to contact is not needed for NAIA or international transfers. • Must send notification of intent to transfer for NAIA transfers.

46. What About the Transfer Portal? • Use of the NCAA Transfer Portal is highly encouraged. • Name in Transfer Portal = permission to contact. • Pay attention to any restrictions that may apply to a Division II student-athlete!

47. What if permission to contact is denied?

49. General Transfer Rule • A four-year college transfer must serve a year in residence before being eligible for competition. • During this year, the student-athlete may practice and receive athletics aid. • Exception: Nonqualifer with only one term of attendance at a four-year institution.

50. Transfer Exceptions • Student-athlete cannot have an unfilled residence requirement at the previous institution. • During the first year of collegiate enrollment, only qualifiers can use a transfer exception.
