  2. Craigslist’s Description The smooth earth snake is small at about 7-10 inches long. It’s heavy body is lined with smooth scales and a pointed snout. This snake is also usually a grey-brown shade with black dots scattered among it’s back side. The underside is usually a whitish-tan, but it is not clearly defined beside the dark shades. Smooth earth snakes are named for obvious reasons. In comparison to the rough earth snake and the brown snake, this snake’s scales are fairly soft. This species can commonly be found in a variety of sizes, ranging from the smaller snakes found among the Coastal range, and the larger ones found along mountains and Piedmont.

  3. Habitatationalness Stuff This species can be found in scattered locations throughout the eastern and central U.S. and throughout Georgia and South Carolina. Its geographic range includes much of the Coastal Plain, Piedmont, and mountains, from southern Virginia to Louisiana, but the species is absent from peninsular Florida and most of the region of either side of the Mississippi River. This species is found in a variety of forested habitats with plenty of ground cover, but is most common in moist deciduous forests and edge habitats.

  6. Endangered Species: When, Why, and Plan • Smooth Earth Snakes are protected by the Kansas Nongame and Endangered Species Conservation Act. They are currently restricting the habitat of the snakes to the northeastern part of Kansas in order to recover the endangered species. • This snake is endangered due to the loss of urbanization and agriculture within the forests, where the snake lives.

  8. Protection Plan In order to save the Smooth Earth Snake, specialists are creating reserves for the animal to live on to help them avoid poaching and any more open to extinction.
