The University • It is a national public institution dedicated to teaching, research, outreach and social projection activities. • Its roots can be traced back to 1962 when the JMC Military School started offering Civil Engineering, Economics and Law programs. In 1980, the program in medicine offered by the Military School of Medicine was integrated. • In 1982, it was recognized as a higher education institution, under the Ministry of Defense. • In 2002, the UMNG was established by law, as an autonomous university.

  30. 2011 Budget • The General Fund relies largely on student fees and government appropriations and pays for teaching, research, equipment purchases, library services, student scholarships, and maintenance and operation of physical properties, among other services. • 2011 total budget amounts to USD 72 million, including USD 4 million provided by the government; the rest is generated through student fees and provision of services.
