  3. Recycling Education & Outreach • Education Programming • Hosted 132 groups at county MRF for lessons and tours, totaling over 3,790 people. (Includes two annual Open Houses in April/Nov.) • Provided 101 presentations to community groups including schools, businesses, and other organizations, reaching over 4,360 people. • Total audience of our programs was over 8,150!

Recycling Education & Outreach • Outreach • Made 54 appearances in community • Handed out literature, answered questions, promoted recycling and gave away blue bins • Locations included: Waukesha JanBoree, Retzer Nature Center, community libraries, Lake Country Community Fest, farmers’ markets, Oconomowoc Kids Fest, Marcus theaters, Apple Harvest Fest, Hispanic Fairs, National Night Out, Recycle Raccoon in parades...and many more!

  7. Storm Water Education & Outreach • Display used at 36 events in 16 communities • Presented to over 335 people • Held 5 rain garden workshops for 165 people • Maintained 23 stream monitoring sites in the County

  8. Storm Water Education & Outreach • Held 4 teacher training events with 57 teachers • Presented at 10 schools to 761 kids • Provided field experience to 7 schools and 631 kids • Signed Green School agreements with 4 new schools for water projects

Recycling Dividends • $9.716 million to communities since 2001 • Including 2013 • 2013 county recycling budget is $1.2 million • Same as 2012 • Formula is based on three factors: • Base dividend prorated to each community based on State Recycling Grant eligible costs • Solid waste tip fee credit payment • Rebate incentive – tons delivered to MRF and each communities recycling rate

Electronics Recycling • V.A.L.U.E Contract – URT • Volume Acquisition and Large Uniform Expenditures • Extended through June 30, 2013 (2 EXT.) • All sites can accept electronics & appliances • Group A (Residential & K-12) • No Fees for electronics & appliances • Paid $0.10/pound for CPU’s & Laptops • Group B (Municipal/Government) • Pay $0.13-0.15/pound • Paid $0.10/pound for CPU’s & Laptops

  16. Household Hazardous Waste Total program costs continue to increase and are up 14.5% since 2006. Average cost per pound is also up 22% from $1.16/pound to $1.42 in 2011.

Household Hazardous Waste • 2012 Program Funding • Veolia = $157,000 • Waukesha County = $60,183 • Funded by VEP landfill payments • Will increase $20,000 • Municipalities = 33% cost share = $35,000 • DATCP Grant = $13,340 • Walworth Co. Estimated MOU = $2,477 • Total 2012 Available Funding = $268,000 • Projected Costs = $310,557.02 = (-39,100) In 2012 this program is projected to be approximately $39,100 over budget (for WC) and has been over budget consistently. We will be working with our municipalities and Veolia ES to make recommendations for program changes to manage costs more effectively in 2013.

County Yard Waste Composting Site • Opened in fall 2004 – use finish compost for mine reclamation at county gravel pit • $7.50/ton tip fee/funded by REI grants • Used by 18-23 communities each year • Conditional Use permit expires in 12/31/12 • Extension to 10/31/13 – no more compost needed • RFP underway – January 2013 bids • New site? New funding? Stay tuned…. • If site found, county will help with transition/$

ReTRAC Training • Refresher on effectively using ReTRAC software from 9-10 am on March 6thin our IT training room for all 37 municipalities.  • The course will provide an overview on the mechanics of data entries for tonnages and DNR report costs and will also demonstrate the vast array of reports that are available through the ReTRAC website.  • Recycling and solid waste info for all municipalities are stored in ReTRAC, allowing these reports to be easily tailored to your community and provide a good historical perspective of your R&SW program.  Please call Marcia at 262-896-8302 to register
