  1. 5 Essential Tips to Care for Your Toddler’s Teeth

  2. Care for Your Toddler’s Teeth • Good dental care habits are one of the best things you can pass on to your kids. As soon as their first set of teeth comes in, take them to your family dentist for a check. • Not to worry as your dental team is sure to be gentle on your little one. • Just a first friendly meeting with the dental team and if your child allows, a look at his mouth.

  3. Here are More Tips to Care for Your Toddler's Oral Health:

  4. Observe His Mouth • Check your little one's mouth daily. If you notice anything unusual, such as white spots, let your dentist know. • This may be signs of early tooth decay. Let your baby use his own utensils to avoid transferring bacteria to his mouth.

  5. Clean His Mouth Regularly • As soon as you see his teeth come in, clean his mouth using either a clean washcloth or an infant toothbrush. • Your little one will need your assistance in brushing and flossing his teeth until he's around 6. • Until then, you need to take the lead in brushing his teeth at least twice a day. Talk to your dental team about the right type of toothpaste to use for your little one.

  6. Limit Sugary Drinks and Treats • The longer sugars stay in the mouth, the more likely they'll turn into acids and attack the tooth enamel. • Sugars mix with bacteria and then attack the outermost layer of the teeth. Eventually, this can lead to cavities, which can cause your little one pain and discomfort. • Avoid giving your child too much of sugary drinks, especially before bedtime. Train your child to drink more water, instead.

  7. Check Your Child's Pacifier • If you choose to give your little one pacifiers, be sure to give him the right size. • Check the pacifier's nipple regularly and keep it clean. Replace it once torn or cracked. Avoid dipping it to sugary substances, too. • Once all your child's teeth come in, train him to let go of his pacifier. prolonged use may affect speech development.

  8. Make Dental Care Fun • Be firm about the value of regular brushing and flossing. It's okay if your child doesn't find these habits interesting at first. • Be patient and do your best to associate them to positive things. Make it a group activity with the adults or other kids. • In the same vein, make dental visits exciting for your little one. Show how you, yourself, are happy when it's time to see the dentist.
