  3. EXPLORE Scores • The EXPLORE test is used to place students into classes here at Bloom High School. • The test was given at our feeder schools in January • Our 2nd make-up test will be given at Bloom High School on Wednesday, June 11th at 8am • ALL incoming freshmen must take the EXPLORE exam

  4. Course Requests • Your EXPLORE scores place you into courses here at Bloom

  5. Most Freshmen take 5 classes, the equivalent of 5 credits and will begin school at 8:40 am. Those of you involved in Band or Choir will have to take Health during “Early Bird” for one semester. Early Bird classes run Monday- Friday, 7:35 am- 8:35.

  6. Graduation Requirements English 4 credits Math 3 credits Science 2 credits Social Studies 3 credits- 1 in World History, 1 in US History Constitution Test pass both State and Federal tests Consumer Education 1 credit- in either Consumer Education or Economics Physical Education Enrolled in 3 years, must earn 2 credits **NJROTC counts as this requirement Career & Technical Ed./Fine Arts 2 credits You need 20 credits to graduate

Elective Courses • You can start taking elective courses during your sophomore year • We have an array of elective choices here at Bloom High School, including: Spanish, French, Italian Culinary Arts, Child Development Auto ,Woods, Metals Computer Applications Art, Photography, Ceramics Yearbook Broadcasting Psychology, Sociology Fitness, Athletic Conditioning

  8. Advanced Placement (AP) Program English • AP Language and Composition • AP Literature and Composition Social Studies • US History • Micro and Macro Economics Science • Biology • Chemistry Math • Calculus Art • Art Studio

  9. Honors Courses We also have Honors courses for every core academic area, for every grade level. You are placed into these course by teacher recommendation.

  10. Early College Initiative Program- ECI • Recently, we have partnered with Prairie State College to add additional educational opportunities for our students • We have 30 students, district-wide, taking college courses at PSC during the school day. • That means, 30 students will have already have college credit when they graduate from high school! • Next year, the numbers are even larger!

  11. GET INVOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the best ways to be successful at Bloom High School is to get involved in school activities! Whether it is a sport or a club, get involved!

Other Registration Forms and Information In addition to the items already discussed, your packets contain the following: • Enrollment Form • Race and Ethnicity Form- state requirement • Internet usage • Likeness form • Health Record Form • Home Language Survey- state requirement • Physical Form- make your appointments NOW!

  13. REGISTER NOW! • If you turn in all of your registration materials before June 1st, you will receive $25 dollars off of the $175 registration fee! • You can turn in a copy of the 8th grade diploma and physical and dental forms over the summer. • This will save you from having to wait in the long lines at our Summer registration!

  14. Summer REFS Program • What is it? REFS is a 6 week summer program designed to help improve reading skills for incoming freshmen. One semester credit will be earned! • Who should come? All students who earn a score of 10 or below in the Explore Reading and English test or any student who would like to advance their high school reading skills to be more successful in their freshman year.

  15. Summer RAMP Program • What is it? RAMP is a 6 week summer program designed to help improve math skills for incoming freshmen. One semester credit will be earned! • Who should come? Students who earn a score of 14 or below in Math or any student who would like to improve your math skills to be more successful in their freshman Algebra class.
