What contributes to creating negative stress? • Absenteeism • No ID for registration for matric • Bad time-management & procrastinationmakes the workload feel unmanageable • Part-time work especially during the week • Cellphones/Mxit/TV/Facebook • Excessive social life, especially late nights • Leadership applications • Matric activities • Tertiary applications

  7. Workload and Examinations Know the goal! National Promotion Criteria • English Home Language - Minimum 40% • Any other 2 subjects – Minimum 40% • 3 other subjects – Minimum 30% • School Based Assessment – 25% • Final Examination – 75%

  15. HOW TO MANAGE STRESS • Be aware of your stressors and your response • Recognise what you can change • Reduce intensity of emotional reaction- overreacting? - expecting to please everyone? 4. Learn to moderate your physical reaction - slow, deep breathing - relaxation techniques 5. Plan your day and focus on one thing at a time

Build your physical reserves - Cardiovascular fitness: regular jogging, walking - Eat well-balanced meals - Get enough sleep - Avoid excessive caffeine - Take breaks • Maintain your emotional reserves - pursue realistic goals - develop mutually supportive relationships - write a journal/poem/letter • Be Positive
