  13. What do our certificate programs prepare students for? • Serve as the classroom training requirement for the two part registered USDOL apprenticeship program in these occupations. • Graduates will be equipped to function as entry level “skilled” workers

Equipment Computer Aided-Instruction programs (NIDA, SEMITECH, CISCO, CDX & ATECH (Automotive & small engine) Residential wiring cubicles, industrial wiring trainers Woodshop static power machines Welding stations (arc & gas) Vehicle hydraulic lift Fusion splicer & OTDR (fiber optics installation) Electronic workshop equipment with testing equipment (oscilloscope, counters, generators, soldering stations, other trainers) Construction equipment (concrete mixer, power tools) FM radio station (telecommunication program) Refrigerant recovery & recycling unit

Our immediate ties to the military build up. • Our programs are available now. • WASC accredited college • Under this commission in the region are: GCC, UOG, PCC, NMC, CMI and the UH Community College System. • Industry certified programs: • USDOL Registered Apprenticeship • CISCO Academy • ETA Certification

  25. Administrator for the USDOL sponsored apprenticeship program in FSM with direct link to Honolulu Office. Current sponsors are FSM Telecom, Pohnpei and Yap Utilities, Pohnpei State Governor’s Office, Yap State Governor’s Office, Pohnpei Dept of Public Safety and COMFSM. Offer credit and short term, non credit courses for workforce training needed.

Member of the Regional Workforce Development Council (RWDC). • This is a workforce subcommittee under the Micronesian Chief Executives led by Guam Department of Labor to address workforce training alignments and initiatives in the region. • Facilitated the development of Career and Technical standard for K-12 for FSM. • A collaborative effort between PREL, FSM NDOE, State DOE and COMFSM. • Facilitated the development of FSM Vocational Plan • A partnership between FSM NDOE, SBOC and COMFSM to align vocational planning agendas with in FSM

Long term assistance for Guam build up - workforce • CA Secretarial program • AS Degree in Hospitality and Tourism • AS Business • AA Social Science • AS Media studies • AS Environmental and Marine Science • Partnership BA in education with UOG • Developing a 2 year nursing and a 2 year public health programs.

Regional cooperation activities • Membership on the Regional Workforce Council to maintain workforce alignment • Partnership with FSM and State Government to address local workforce needs • USDOL registered apprenticeship program to continue offering industry certified training programs • Ongoing activities to articulate programs and courses with regional institutions.

For our FSM leaders • Encourage students in your states to enroll at COM-FSM technology and trades programs • Provide financial assistance for new or expansion of existing programs. • Coordinated effort in placing our graduates into the workforce. • Assist in identification, prioritization and implementation of short term or customized training for our states or nation. • Establish pathways for our citizens to take part in the build up and receive the full assistance and support for quality living in Guam.

Conclusion • COM-FSM Technology & Trades provides high quality programs for graduates to acquire the necessary academic and technical skills to join the works force, to successfully attain USDOL journeyman certificates or higher degree. • COM-FSM continues to work collaboratively and in partnerships to develop technical and trade education and career development • COM-FSM provides short term, non –credit workforce training • We are embracing a regional approach by communicating and connecting with other institutions and Regional Workforce Development Council. • We can do more with more support and funding.
