Lawmaking Overview
The lawmaking process involves several critical steps: introduction of a bill by an elected lawmaker, committee review and public input, debate, and voting within chambers. If passed, the bill moves to a second chamber for similar scrutiny. Any amendments lead to potential compromise through a Conference Committee. Ultimately, the bill reaches the executive for approval or veto. Should a veto occur, the legislature has one chance to override it with a 2/3 vote in both chambers. This overview highlights how laws are formulated and the complexities involved in the process.
