  1. Week 3/12 – 3/15

  2. Monday Bellwork On a clean sheet of paper: Write three (3) problems that require a Punnett Square to solve. Leave space in between the problems for someone else to solve. Read over the problems to make sure they are clear and that YOU could solve them! Don’t take all day. This is just a bellwork! Hurry!

  3. Epistasis • Epistatic Genes: Effects of one gene override or mask the phenotype of a second gene. Epistasis is not dominance. Compare the definitions: • Epistasis One gene masks the expression of a different gene for a different trait • Dominance One allele masks the expression of another allele of the same gene

  4. Coat Color in Mice • 2 different genes determine only 3 different phenotypes, rather than 4 phenotypes typical of a dihybrid cross • 1 phenotype is masked by genotype at a different locus

  5. Coat Color in MiceBB= Blackbb=Browncc=Albino

  6. Wednesday Bellwork For your bellwork you have two (2) things to do: • Grade the paper that I put on your desk. Make notes of any errors. • Complete the following cross of two LaboradorRetreivers: BbEe X Bbee What are the phenotypic proportions (ie: How many Black, Chocolate, and Yellow Labs)?

  7. Pedigrees

  8. What is a pedigree? A chart that can help trace the phenotypes and genotypes in a family to determine whether people carry recessive alleles. Squares vs.Circles Shaded vs. Empty

  9. Making a pedigree

  10. Pedigree practice Label the Pedigree:

  11. Pedigree practice Draw a Pedigree:

  12. Thursday 3/15 Happy Thursday People! Don’t forget tomorrow if your GENETICS TEST! Please write down a question about the material we have covered during the genetics unit.
