Background • Hungary: sewage problems in rural areas mean important problem • Sewage treatment of small settlements mainly with less than 2000 inhabitants and individual or small-group houses is essentially unsolved • Some efforts and private companies’ activities are running • Limited information is available

National Program • Governmental decrees harmonized with 91/271/EC Directive • National Programme for Harmless Placing of Local Sewage • ‘A’ program: National Sewage Treatment Feasibility Program - 25/2002. (II. 27.) Gov. Decree • ‘B’ program: Individual Sewage Treatment National Feasibility Program – 174/2003 (X. 28.) Gov. Decree

  4. Target state - Necessary individual sewage treatment capacity in Hungary

  5. Activities • Short overview of rural area sewage treatment situation in Hungary • Overview of available Hungarian rural area sewage treatment methods, gained experiences • Experiences of solutions applied by project partners (Finland, UK)

  6. Pilot • Qualification of different solutions’ adaptability (individual house, small group of houses, settlements with less than 2000 inhabitants) based on partners’ experiences
