  1. Neutralization Reactionsusing Titration Method What is a titration? What’s the point?

  2. What is a Titration? • laboratory method of quantitative analysis used to determine unknown concentration of known substance

  3. Titration Key Ideas • You can determine the concentration of acid or base in a solution by performing aanalytical, quantitative procedure. Chemists carry out this procedure by doing a titration. • Titrations use an indicator as a visual aid in determining the end point of the neutralization reaction. • Watch This! • Phenolphthalein turns pink in bases (~ 8).

  4. Graphical Representations • We can graphically represent titrations, end points [pH=7], and equivalence points [H+] = [OH-].

  5. Titration Math Problem • A student neutralizes a 15 mL sample of vinegar (acetic acid) with 31.85 mL of a .4 M NaOH solution. What is the molarity of the vinegar?
