  5. Main Container Inner View (Cont.) • There are six main containers installed in the ink cabinet. • The ink pump connects the ink bottles to the main container and acts like a valve. • The ink that flows into the container is filtered using a10 micron filter. • A sensor inside the container enables the CCB to indicate and control the ink level. • An air equalizer inlet equates the pressure between the main container and the ink bars. • In the lower part of the container there is a PA pressure inlet. Confidential

  6. Ink inlet Air equalizer (from ink bars) Ink outlet Main Container Outer View Confidential

  7. Main Container on the Machine • The Ink Cabinet Side Confidential

  8. Ink bars x 6 – One per color Ink Bars Confidential

  9. Ink Bars (Cont.) • Ink flows from the main container to the ink bars. • There are six ink bars placed under the bridge. • An ink bar is a square tube containing one color throughout the entire width of the bridge. • At the end of each ink bar there is a manual drain, used for draining the ink bars. Confidential

  10. CL ML Y C M K Solenoids Location Confidential

  11. Long Manifold Short Manifold Bridge Ink Manifolds Confidential

  12. Bridge Ink Manifolds (Cont.) • There are 18 manifolds on the bridge. • There are two types of bridge ink manifolds: short and long. • Manifold holders attach the ink manifolds to the bridge. • Ink flows from the ink bars to the manifolds. • The manifolds split the ink onto the printing heads. • Each manifold contains one color. • The manifold's main task is to serve as ink dampers to the relative movement between the bridge and the ink bars. Confidential

  13. Manifold damper Tubes connect the manifolds to the printing heads Manifolds on the bridge Bridge Ink Manifolds (Cont.) Confidential

  14. Bridge Ink Manifolds (Cont.) • The ink manifold contains a rough filter. • The manifolds are also used as a buffer of ink reservoir, before the IJ heads, in order to provide the ink (to IJ heads) on demand. Confidential

  15. Mounting holes Printing Heads Orifice plate Two 50-pin flat cables Confidential

  16. Printing Heads (Cont.) • There are 150 printing heads on the bridge. • The printing heads are electronically controlled by ink jetting devices. • The printing heads receive their control signals from the hardware data path, via the flat cable. • Ink is supplied to the printing heads by the ink manifolds, via two fittings on the side of each printing head. • Each printing head is attached to the bridge with two screws on each side of the printing head. Confidential

  17. Transducer Printing Heads Function Confidential

  18. Printing Heads Function (Cont.) • HP Scitex TJ8300 printing heads function with Piezoelectricdrop-on-demand technology. • Ink drops are ejected at regular intervals onto the media and are deposited only where they are needed. • An electrical charge is generated from a crystal in the print head. • The crystal is subjected to pressure, which in turn causes the release of the ink drop onto the media. Confidential

  19. Functional Description of the Ink System Confidential

  20. Functional Description of the Ink System (Cont.) • Starting Point: • The HP Scitex TJ8300 is currently printing. • The ink bottles are set side up in their position to let the inkflow into the system. • Process: • The liquid float sensor sends signals to the CCB interface and from there to the CCB. • To fill the main container, a signal is sent to the CCB Interface board by the CCB. Confidential

  21. Functional Description of the Ink System (Cont.) • To pump ink from the ink bottle to the main container, the CCB interface board sends a signal to the ink pump control box. • The ink level signal is sent to the CCB by the liquid float sensor, located inside the main container, via the CCB interface board. • Based on information provided by the float sensor, the CCB is able to determine when to shut down the ink pump. • Unless there is an LPAP process, ink flows out from the main tank to the ink bars by gravity. • Valve B is opened as default, unless the operator defines otherwise. • Gravity forces ink to flow into the ink manifolds from the ink bars. Confidential

  22. Functional Description of the Ink System (Cont.) • To equalize pressure, the ink bars and the ink manifolds are open to outside atmospheric pressure as follows: • The ink bars are connected via tubes to the main tank. • Each manifold is connected to the breathing valve, which is automatically activated after the start print command, thus enabling each manifold to be open to the atmospheric pressure only during the print process. • Ink is forced by the equalized pressure to flow up from the manifold to the printing heads. • Ink drops are ejected from the printing heads towards the substrate sheet and follow the electronic signals from the data path hardware. Confidential

  23. Functional Description of the Ink System (Cont.) • LPAP or Print Prime: • The LPAP function is software controlled by the operator. • The 48 VDC for the printing head drivers is automaticallyshut off. • The computer commands the CCB via the ACB controller (located in the control unit) to open the PA solenoid. • The level sensors are disabled by the CCB. • An opening signal is sent to the PA solenoid by the CCB via the CCB interface. • The PA solenoid supplies air pressure to the main containers. Confidential

  24. Functional Description of the Ink System (Cont.) • The supplied air pressure forces the ink from the main container to flow out towards the ink bar. • Ink flows from the ink bar towards the ink manifold and to the printing head. • Manifolds breathing valves are normally closed at this stage. • Since ink is forced out with PA pressure, the nozzles of the printing heads start spraying. Confidential

  25. Main Container Float Sensor • The float sensor, placed in the main container, has 2 functions: • Overflow • Low level indication Confidential

  26. CCB (Color Control Board) • Color system controller Confidential

  27. Lower Main Container • One container for each color. • The container is filled with ink up to the level sensor. • The height of the ink level inside the main container must be lower than the inkjet heads level by: • 25 mm for C • 35mm for M • 30mm for Y • 40mm for K • 44mm for CL • 25mm for ML Confidential

  28. CCB Interface • The interface between the CCB and the ink system components Confidential

  29. Ink Manifold • 18 manifolds distribute the ink from the mid-containers to the printing heads. Confidential

  32. Weigh System • The weigh system is from machine 75 and above. • The weigh system purpose is to indicate the ink and the waste level in the ink and the waste bottles. • The weigh system includes: • Weigh sensors (load cell)-7 total • Board weigh controller Confidential

  33. Weigh System (Cont.) • Weigh Sensors (Load Cell) Confidential

  34. Weigh System (Cont.) • Weigh Sensors (Load Cell) • There are 7-weigh sensors in the system, six for each color and one for the waste container. • The weigh sensor is located below the ink and waste bottles. • The waste system stops automatically when the load cellreads 10L. • The load cell is based on the principle of a bridge resistor. • The changes of the resistance in the bridge resistors are transferred to the weigh controller. Confidential
