  1. SEEKING TO SAVE THE LOST A STUDY THROUGH THE GOSPEL OF LUKE

  2. IT IS WRITTEN PART 19 - LUKE 4:1-4

  3. Acts 14:22 ...through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.

  4. John 16:33 ...In the world you will have tribulation.

  5. Outline • The Spirituality of Jesus • The Sovereignty of God • The Slyness of the Devil • The Sufficiency of God’s Word

  6. Big Idea God’s sovereign rule and sufficient word MUST be our strength in times of trouble & temptation.

  7. The Spirituality of Jesus

  8. Matthew 28:19-20 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.

  9. The Sovereignty of God

  10. Matthew 4:1 Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

  11. Matthew 16:22-23 ...Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” 23 But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

  12. Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

  13. Hebrews 7:26-27 For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. 27 He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself.

  14. James 1:13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.

  15. Proverbs 16:4 The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.

  16. Isaiah 45:7 I form light and create darkness; I make well-being and create calamity; I am the LORD, who does all these things.

  17. Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

  18. The Slyness of the Devil

  19. John 8:44 You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

  20. 1 Thessalonians 3:5 For this reason, when I could bear it no longer, I sent to learn about your faith, for fear that somehow the tempter had tempted you and our labor would be in vain.

  21. Genesis 3:1 ...more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made.

  22. Luke 3:22 ...a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”

  23. Genesis 3:1-3 He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” 2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, 3 but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”

  24. Genesis 3:4-5 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

  25. The Sufficiency of God’s Word

  26. Deuteronomy 8:3 ...man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

  27. Genesis 3:4-5 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

  28. 1 Corinthians 3:16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?

  29. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  30. Psalm 46:10 “Be still, and know that I am God.

  31. Matthew 28:20 ...I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

  32. Philippians 4:5-7 ...The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  33. Romans 15:4 For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

  34. Big Idea God’s sovereign rule and sufficient word MUST be our strength in times of trouble & temptation.
