  1. Heat Transfer Chapter 16 Section 2 By:Krystal Jacobs

  2. Guide for Reading • How is temperature measured? • In what three ways is heat transferred?

  3. Vocabulary • Thermal Energy:The total energy of motion of energy in the molecules of a substance. • Thermometer:A thin glass tube with a bulb on one end that contains a liquid, usually mercury or colored alcohol. • Temperature:The average amount of energy of motion of each molecule of a substance. • Heat:The energy transferred from a hotter object one . • Conduction:The direct transfer of heat from one substance to another substance that is touching. • Convection:The transfer of heat by the movement of fluid.

  4. Energy and Temperature Thermal Energy:The total energy of motion of energy in the molecules of a substance. • Temperature: The average amount of energy of motion of each molecule of a substance

  5. Measuring Temperature • Temperature is measured in units called Celsius or Fahrenheit by a thermometer. • Thermometer:A thin glass tube with a bulb on one end that contains a liquid, usually mercury or colored alcohol. • The liquid inside the thermometer expands and contrasts so doing that we are able to tell the temperature.

  6. The three types of heat! Radiation, Convection, and Conduction.

  7. How Heat is Transferred • Heat:The energy transferred from a hotter object one . • Conduction:The direct transfer of heat from one substance to another substance that is touching. • Convection:The transfer of heat by the movement of fluid. • Radiation:The act or process of radiating: the radiation of heat and light from a fire.

  8. Can You Answer This? • What is temperature? • Describe how a thermometer work. • Name three ways that heat is transferred. Briefly answer these.

  9. Answers • The average amount of energy of motion of each molecule of a substance. • The liquid inside the thermometer expands and contrasts so doing that we are able to tell the temp. • They are ,Radiation, Conduction, andConvection.
