Question 1 • How can I do well in your course and in my other classes? • Do your homework • Show up for class • Follow directions • Stick to the schedule • Ask questions • Work with fellow students • Work with a tutor • Search web sites • Read the textbook • Go to the library • Use school resources such as the Writing Center • There may be something available for the specific subject

  3. Question 2 • What advise do you have for balancing work, school and/or family? • Prioritize your activities • Go to class • Go to work • Do your assignments • Do additional research • Chat with friend • Play the video game • Go to the movie • Have fun at the party

Question 3 • Why did you get started in this field? • Took some computer programming classes as electives • Fascinated with the gee-wiz aspects of computers • Coworker commented one day that he wanted to know the difference between ROM and RAM • Researched potential jobs in computer field • Could only staff 10% of current jobs • Only 3% of computer applications had been identified

Question 4 • What advise would you give to someone just starting in this field? • Develop problem solving skills • Practice with games • Card games, word games, sudoko, mind games • Read mystery novels and go to mystery movies • Take advanced mathematics courses • Learn how to write • Learn how to speak in public • Be curious

Important Dates • October 15 Monday12 noon Midterm grades due • October 18-20Thurs-SatFall Break - No Classes • October 22MondayClasses resume • October 22 Monday Last day for undergraduates to drop a course with a “W” grade • October 24 Wednesday Department Majors Meeting • October 25 Thursday Early registration for Spring 2008 begins • November 16 Friday Last day to register early for Spring 2008 semester • November 21 Wednesday No classes - Student Recess • November 21 Wednesday Last day for undergraduates to withdraw from the university with documentation

Early Registration and Advisement for 2008 Spring Semester • Attend your Department Majors Meeting (including undecided students) on October 24th from 10:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Locations are posted around campus or in the major departments. All students must make an appointment with their Academic Advisor in preparation for the 2008 Spring Semester. Students may check BraveWeb for their current advisor. • Keep your appointment with your advisor and plan your schedule. Your advisor will give you your alternate PIN number allowing access to registration. • Log in BraveWeb and check your timeticket for spring. Timetickets will be loaded on October 23rd. It will list the time and date you are eligible to register. This is determined by your status and earned hours. Make sure you are eligible to register. If you are not eligible to register, please contact the Office of the Registrar immediately. Registration begins on October 25th. • Register on BraveWeb for Spring 2008 before 5:00 p.m. on November 16th. Registration closes November 16th. Spring 2008 bills will be mailed out on November 21st. Payment is due before December 19th.
