  2. Mark 3:31-32 • 31 Then His brothers and His mother came, and standing outside they sent to Him, calling Him. 32 And a multitude was sitting around Him; and they said to Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are outside seeking You.“

  3. Mark 3:33-35 • 33 But He answered them, saying, "Who is My mother, or My brothers?" 34 And He looked around in a circle at those who sat about Him, and said, "Here are My mother and My brothers! 35 For whoever does the will of God is My brother and My sister and mother."

  4. Introduction • Jesus had a physical family • Mother, father • Brothers, sisters • He had an extended family • Aunts, uncles, cousins • He had a spiritual family • Apostles, disciples, followers, believers

  5. Introduction Here is the question for today: Who is my brother?

  6. Brotherhood of Man • All humans came from Adam and Eve • Genesis 3:20 20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.

  7. Brotherhood of Man • We have a lot in common • Environment, peace / war, sin, temptations, economy • We share with all humanity in the problems and struggles of life

  8. Brotherhood of Believers • In the USA 98% believe in God • Almost as many (93%) believe in Jesus lived on earth • We share a common faith, hope, desire of heaven • We share many moral, family, and spiritual values

  9. Brotherhood of Obedient • Many believers do not obey • James 2:19 19 You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe--and tremble! • We must “Trust AND Obey”

  10. Brotherhood of Obedient • Hebrews 5:8-9 8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

  11. Brotherhood of Obedient • Luke 6:46 46 "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say? • Matthew 7:21 21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

  12. Brotherhood of Faithful • It is not enough to start (obey) • We must keep on – remain faithful • Colossians 1:2 2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

  13. Brotherhood of Faithful • Revelation 2:10b 10 You will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. • All around the world are strong, dedicated, faithful Christians • They are my brothers

  14. Brotherhood of Involved • Beyond faithful – dedicated • They are involved, willing to work • More than just show up • Teach, help, give, volunteer • VBS, Bear program, Egg hunt, Bible bowl, Children’s Home, Youth work • There is a special bond in working together

  15. Brotherhood of Local • Each congregation has its own personality • It is involved in certain: • Mission work – Daniel Hamm • Teaching – Memphis School of Preaching • Projects – Bears for the hospital

  16. Brotherhood of Local • We also share with each other • Time of joy – babies born, weddings • Time of sorrow – sickness, death • We support, encourage, correct, edify, and sometimes rebuke - - - BECAUSE WE ARE FAMILY!
