  2. Rules cont. 2. Blends (bl, cr, dr, -mp, -nd) and clusters (str) get broken down to individual sounds. Map these words: blob, camp, close, stand, stripes

  3. Rules cont. • 3. Both consonant (sh, ch, th, wh) and vowel digraphs (ee, ea, ai, oa) remain together because they make one sound Try to map: sheep, chose, steeple, wreck

  4. Rules cont 4. Some other dipthong sounds get 1 box dipthongs or glides (oi and oy, ou and ow) Examples: joins, coy, broil

  5. Rules cont • Other sounds that get 1 box –ng Example: ring, sang, hung

  6. R controlled vowels (ar, er, ir, or, ur) get 1 box Examples: chirp, targets

  7. Last rule • -igh stays together Final words: sigh, highlight, straight
