  2. Our objectives • Determine the price of landscape projects. • Identify how to calculate the cost of landscape projects. • Identify ways of marketing landscape businesses.

  3. How are the prices of landscape projects determined? • The designer job is not only to make the design but also to price the design • Estimate- the approximate price for the work to be done • cost of materials • cost of labor • Price is an estimate not an exact • Sometimes more than one company is interested in doing the job and the customer will take bids from them • A bid is a FIXED price set for a job • Before making a bid, they first must make the design • Specifications are written to describe what will happen in the project • Estimate sheets can be used to help the landscaper come up with a bid for the customer and also in calculating the price of a landscape project

  4. How can you calculate the cost of a landscape project? • When calculating the cost you must also consider the following: • Labor costs • Material cost • Overhead cost- multiplying the total for labor and materials by 20% will help calculate the overhead costs • Contingency cost- unforeseen expenses, multiplying the overhead, labor, and materials by 10% will determine this • Profit • Cost summation- the sum of the labor, materials, overhead, and contingency costs of a project • Profit- the money earned after deducting the cost of the project • Should be at least 20%

  5. How can landscape businesses market their products and services? • Advertise in the telephone book • Newspaper advertisement • Word of mouth • Distribute flyers to target markets
