  1. Approaches for Integrating Configuration Management into Your ITS Project Development Processes Talking Technology and Transportation T3 Webinar February 21, 2008

  2. Configuration Management Webinar Speakers Host • Frank Cechini, FHWA CA Division Speakers • Ron Ice, ICE and Associates • Mark Morse, Washington State DOT • Chuck Larsen, Oregon State DOT

  3. Formal Definition of Configuration Management “A management process that establishes and maintains consistency of a product’s attributes with its requirements and product configuration information throughout the products life cycle” * *EIA 649-A National Consensus Standard for Configuration Management, April 2004

  4. CM is a Process • CM is a set of activities that help establish and maintain the integrity of the system elements and control changes • It is an integral part of the systems engineering process • The process can be tailored so CM can support both large and small projects • Commercial tools are available for large projects but a spreadsheet works well for smaller projects

  5. CM Relation to SE Process

  6. What are the Benefits of CM • Established project product integrity • Improved performance, reliability, & maintainability • Product Traceability • Extended life and supportability • Reduced project risk & project changes • Cost Savings/Avoidance
