In 2010, Dublin, the capital of Ireland with a population of approximately 4 million, reported 331 new HIV diagnoses. Among these, 16% were among men who have sex with men (MSM), with 40.5% from intravenous drug use (IVDU) and 37.2% through heterosexual transmission. By December 2010, a cumulative total of 5,968 HIV infections had been reported. Treatment for around 3,000 patients at St. James’s Hospital shows that 78% are on antiretroviral therapy. Data reveals various regimens including Atripla, Truvada, and others.
