  3. Brainstem • Functions: most basic functions of life (reflexes, breathing, sleep), connects the brain to the rest of the body • Parts: midbrain, medulla oblongata, pons, diencephalon

  5. Thalamus • Functions: relaying of sensory and motor signals to the cerebral cortex,consciousness, sleep, alertness

  6. Hypothalamus • Functions: body temperature, hunger, sexual behavior, thirst, fatigue, sleep

  7. Hippocampus • Functions: formation of memory, spatial navigation

  8. Cognitive Map

  9. Amygdala • Functions: emotions, particularly fear, rage, and violence

  11. Brain Functions Diagram • Draw images/symbols to represent the functions of each structure of the brain • Label each structure • USE COLOR • On the back, write scenarios for each structure • Do not write the answer
