  3. What is Community Engagement? • Performing work in the community in the effort to help improve, or support a cause that will better or add to the value of the community. • Example: cleaning parks, mentoring programs, or clothing drives

  4. Values • Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others? ~ Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. • What are the values of performing community service?

Values To create positive change in communities close to home • Positively effecting someone’s life and the community • Creating a healthy environment • Educating and helping those less fortunate • Creating a space for those that come after you • Building awareness on an important situation or issue • Giving back • Developing leadership skills

Ernst and Young three Es Ernst and Young uses the three Es to structure it’s corporate responsibility efforts • Education • Entrepreneurship • Environment • Corporate responsibility is extremely important to all EY employees. Every office hosts an EY Connect Day, where employees take the day to connect to the community through a corporate responsibility activity.

College and Future Employers College Applications Resume Listing community service efforts on your resume is important to employers Employers and recruiters like to see that you are active in the community. • On your college application there is a space to enter your volunteer activities. • Application reviewers look for volunteer and community service activities. • Participating in community service activities shows characteristics such as: compassion for others and society, and responsibility. Organizing or joining an organization that aids community engagement efforts shows leadership skills; all of which are important to employers and educational programs.
