  1. 12 October, 1492 Dear family members, I have been on a long voyage for 72 days from August 3rd through October 12th 1492with the 3 captains that I met on the three ships. The three ships names are the Santa Maria, the Pinta, and the Nina. The captains’ name are Martin Pinzon, his brother Vicente Pinzon, and Christopher Columbus. When we finally got on land, we noticed that the people living here were naked. They are called Tainos. We traded some cool things with the Tainos . The things we traded for were parrots, balls of cotton thread, spears , and many other things. The island we visited was called Guanahani, but Christopher named it San Salvador. We were all happy to finally find land, and get off the ship . It was a long trip and we were all starting to annoy each other. On the island, we walked a long time to explore, so we were very hot and thirsty. I hope to be home soon. Sincerely, Courtenay Bancroft
