12 October, 1492 Dearest Mother, I am traveling good on the Santa Maria. Columbus is really cracking down on the other sailors. Columbus tells us of what we are to earn when we get back to Spain. Oh my! Columbus has just announced land ho!
Saturday, 13 October, 1492 Wow! This land is spectacular! Columbus is now trading with these foreign people. We are trading beads and hawk bells. It looks like their trading parrots and cotton. Well mom, Columbus is really extraordinary. He has come back from his first meeting with who he calls the Tainos. He says they have gold earrings. He has named the island San Salvador! Well yours truly, Caitlin
