  1. “Connecting people, communities, and government” The Department of Neighborhoods (DoN) works to bring government closer to the residents of Seattle by engaging them in civic participation, helping them become empowered to make positive contributions to their communities, and by involving more of Seattle’s under-represented residents, including communities of color and immigrants, in civic discourse, processes, and opportunities.

DoN2010 Budget Overview: General Fund (Total City General Fund = $905.4 million) Approximately $15.3 million ( 1.7% of Total City General Fund ) This provides funding for 86.50 positions and is categorized into six lines of business: Neighborhood Matching Fund, $3.7 m Community Building, $3.1 m Customer Service & Operations, $3.3 m Directors Office & Historic Preservation, $1.3 m Customer Service Bureau, $0.7 m Youth Violence Prevention. $3.3 m “Connecting people, communities, and government”
  3. 2010 Neighborhood Matching Fund($3.7 m) Resources for Seattle’s communities to preserve and enhance the City’s diverse neighborhoods, and to empower people to make positive contributions to their communities. “Connecting people, communities, and government”
  4. 2010 Community Building( $3.1m) Technical assistance, support services, and programs in neighborhoods to strengthen local communities, engage residents in neighborhood improvement, leverage resources, and complete neighborhood-initiated projects. Etc.: Includes Neighborhood Planning Outreach, Citywide Immigrant and Refugee Initiative, Seattle Youth Commission, South Park Action Agenda. “Connecting people, communities, and government”
  5. 2010 Customer Service & Operations( $3.3m) Provide information, referral services, and coordination of City services to community members, Department operations/admin services Includes: Neighborhood Payment and Information Services (NPIS) at 7 neighborhood service centers for utility payments, cable payments, passports, court fees, municipal court hearings, and other services “Connecting people, communities, and government”
  6. 2010 Director’s Office & Historic Preservation( $1.3m) Communications support for the entire department. Historic Preservation for the City of Seattle Technical assistance Regulatory oversight Outreach Education Department’s executive leadership - Includes administrative oversight, public disclosure requests, special projects, and legislative monitoring “Connecting people, communities, and government”
